JOSEPH'S CATHOLIC PRIMARY SCHOOL Guildford, Surrey Project Information MEMORIAL MOSAIC Theme: "Matthew's favourite things" Age: 5-7 years Time: 2 days of workshops + preparation, finishing & installation Location: wooden panel on an inside wall When Matthew died of cancer at a very young age, the school and his family wanted to commemorate him with artwork and the theme for the mosaic was his favourite things: the colour orange, his toy dinosaur, trains and sunflowers. The children in his class spent some lessons thinking about their time with Matthew and then drawing out some of his favourite things. These drawings were put together to make up the overall design. Over 2 days, his class worked hard to create the mosaic and his sister and some of her friends came to take part in a special session. The mosaic was grouted by the artists of Mosaic Art Ltd and then installed in the main hall at the school. This was a very special project for a very special little person and we were honoured to be chosen to take part in remembering him in a special way. Click here to read feedback from the school
