LAWRENCE Primary School Reading, Berkshire Project Information JUNGLE MOSAIC Commissioned by Workshop Network and Waltham School Design inspiration: the school's link with an African school Age: 7-8 years Time: Preparation time + 2 days workshops + 1 day finishing + installation The school, like many other, had a lot of wall space just waiting for improvement and brightening up and together we selected the end wall of the playground as the location for a mosaic mural of a fantasy world. The school wanted to build on their link with an African school and the design for the mosaic was inspired by jungle animals from Tanzania. The children drew parts of animals which might be hidden behind foliage and as many as possible were included in the final design (put together by MOSAIC ART). During the 2 days of workshops, the children worked hard to put together the final mosaic. This was then taken away to be finished and grouted and was finally installed in the school playground. Other additions were made over summer: planters, trellises and seating to create a special area within the playground. Click here to read feedback from the school
