Outside wall
Theme: Cultures and Patterns Mosaic
Ages: 11+
Time: 5 days of workshops + 3 days preparation, grouting/installation

The school wanted art work that would reflect the rich cultural variety of their student population and after consultation the theme "patterns and cultures" emerged.
On the design day the students researched and drew patterns of their own and other cultures. Klimt's Tree of Life was used in the centre of the mosaic as a concept and symbol evident in nearly every culture. The branches create a honeycomb of patterned areas.
Mosaic workshops were set up at the school. After being instructed in the basic skills of mosaicing, the students produced a striking and inspirational mosaic. It was mounted on the outside wall of the building, welcoming anyone approaching the school and serving as an additional coat of arms.
