Mosaic Benches Project [created on mesh]
Design Inspiration: Underwater paintings/aboriginal designs of Teddington students
Age: week 1 - 12-16 years, week 2 - 6-12 years
After the success of last year's project, Teddington School invited
Art Mosaic Design back to complete the benches at the front of the school.
An underwater design, using tiles and style similar to that of the first bench, was installed on the inside of bench 2 to complete the view from the main entrance of the school. On the other side of all 3 benches, aboriginal designs were translated into mosaic using unglazed ceramic tiles and the background painted in a warm earthy tone. A large separate aboriginal kangaroo was created on a panel and fixed to the wall above the student entrance.
Students from every year group contributed to the designing, making and installation of the mosaics. In the 2nd week, the project was opened to the wider community and children from local primary schools were invited to take part.
Time: 9 days of workshops + 5 days of preparation and installation.
