MOSAIC COLUMNS
Initial Commission: 3 ground floor columns for the new health centre
Design Inspiration: "Perspectives of the world around us"
Participating School: Sydney Russell School
AGE: 12-16
Design sessions held at Sydney Russell School, near to the centre focussed on the young people's thoughts and visions of the world around them. In putting the drawings together into an overall design, the artists found that the drawings fell roughly into 3 categories: "urban environment", "nature" and the "underwater world".

Workshops were then set up to teach the students the basic skills of mosaic and they then worked together in groups to prepare the mosaics on mesh in the workshops.

The project formed part of their GCSE coursework and they documented the project with photos and write-ups.

Installation was completed on site by MOSAIC ART.

The artistic quality and space enhancing properties of the column mosaics seriously impressed the client and has lead to further commission for columns. See Health Centre, Dagenham, PHASE 2 currently in progress.

TIME: Time: 8 days of workshops at the school with additional finishing time. Installation: 5 days
