Design Inspiration: healing plants

Healing herbs in a twisted DNA strand combined with the role Art itself plays in the healing process was an ideal choice for this location. Hospitals can be daunting places and research has show that Art can change a person's attitude and emotional state, create hope and positivity and thus help people cope with the difficulties facing them.

Everyone in the community was invited to take part and they enthusiastically joined the workshops that were set up in the hospital itself and in a variety of local schools and clubs during May and June. Family learning sessions were also held where parents and children learnt the art of creating a mosaic together, as did nurses, doctors and hospital staff, who smilingly added a mosaic tile or two during their breaks.

In the process of its creation, this has truly become a mosaic created by the local community for the local community.

| The mosaic was installed by Art Mosaic Design in August 2007 and was formally opened in September 2007.
