Project Information
MILAAP DAY CENTRE, Kingston-upon-Thames, Surrey
Mosaic: 2 welcoming entrance boards (size: 1.2 x 1.6m)
Design Inspiration: Multi-cultural aspect of the Centre
The Milaap Centre is a multi-cultural centre for older people providing many useful services as well as a wide range of activities.
Art Mosaic Design were invited to work with the members to design and produce artwork to reflect the multi-cultural aspect of the centre.
On the design day members brought along personal memorabilia and related books, photos, objets d'arts etc. They told us about their ideas and related numerous and varied anecdotes from their lives Ð all of which provided the inspiration for the two boards.
Workshops were then held at the Centre to create the mosaic and the groups of people we worked with during the 5 days were not only enthusiastic and skilled with their hands, but they also kept us entertained and laughing throughout the creation process.
The 2 boards are now installed on the outside wall near the entrance.
Time: 5 days of workshops and 3 days of preparation and installation.
