A "SPACE MONSTER" guarding the playground
|
Swings, slides, climbing frames and round-abouts are much loved by children and are an incentive for them to continually improve their physical skills. However, children also love props for their imaginative games. The playground thus did not seem complete without the "Space Monster" structure. Indeed, this was the very first thing children mentioned when we asked them about their ideas of "space".
We decided we would like that monster to be up on a hill, diving in and out of the earth, and finally looking down on the enclosed equipment area. We therefore asked for the area around to be landscaped into hillocks which then extended into a flat grassy plane for ball games. |
"The monster" is much loved and combined with the space bench makes this playground unusual and exciting.
The Art Mosaic Design team has much enjoyed this project and it has stimulated us into dreaming up other play structures that add excitement and opportunities for physical and imaginative play to the traditionally equipped playgrounds. |
